Epassi

Let customers pay with Epassi, a tax-free employee benefit, in Finland and Sweden. Learn how to request credentials and activate the integration.

This page is for venues and companies only.

If you are a customer looking to pay with Epassi, no setup is needed. You can select Epassi as your payment method at checkout if it is available at your venue.

Customers can read how paying works in Payments & benefits.

Epassi is a digital voucher used as a tax-free payment method for employer-provided benefits: the sports and culture benefit in Finland, and friskvårdsbidrag in Sweden. Enabling the integration lets your customers pay for activities with Epassi at checkout.

The integration is available to venues in Finland and Sweden. Each country has its own Epassi service, so credentials issued in one country do not work in the other.

Payments made through Epassi are priced according to Epassi's price list, and Epassi pays them to your venue directly, not through Thril. For more information about the integration and Epassi, feel free to reach out to Thril.

Prerequisites

You need a Site ID and MAC Key issued by Epassi for each account.

To enable

  1. Request your Site ID and MAC Key from Epassi
  2. Go to Settings → System → Integrations → Epassi and select Add account
  3. Enter the credentials and select Save. The name is optional. It helps staff tell accounts apart once you have more than one

The account is active once saved. Thril keeps the MAC key encrypted and never shows it again. When you edit an account, leave MAC key blank to keep the saved key.

Several accounts

Epassi can issue several sites to one business, each with its own Site ID and MAC Key. Add each one as its own account. Accounts belong to the company, so one account can serve several venues.

  • Venues. A new account works at all venues. To limit it, open Venues in the account and pick the venues. A company with one venue does not see this choice.
  • Default. When two or more accounts work at a venue, one of them is the venue's default. Items with no account chosen go through it. Change it under Default accounts on the Epassi page, below the account list. A company with one venue sees Default account.
  • Account per item. When two or more accounts work at a venue, items paid with an employee benefit get an Epassi account field. Pick the account the item goes through, or leave it at Default. Credit products have the field too.
  • Who can edit. A venue admin can edit accounts that work only at venues they admin. Accounts available at all venues, and accounts that also work at other venues, need a company admin or manager.

If a payment has items that go through different accounts, Epassi is not offered for it.

Credits bought with Epassi

Credits a customer tops up with Epassi stay tied to the account that took the payment. At a venue that account works at, they pay only for items that go through it. A refund to credits of an Epassi payment is tied the same way. See Credit products for how benefit credits work in general.

Turning an account off or removing it

  • Turning an account off stops customers from paying with Epassi for the items that go through it.
  • Removing an account moves its items to the default account. Past payments made through it keep working, including automatic refunds.
  • Taking a venue off an account does the same at that venue. Its items go through the venue's default there.
  • When you turn off or remove a venue's default account, or take a venue off it, and another account works there, Thril asks which account becomes the new default.
  • An inactive account cannot be a venue's default.

Troubleshooting

  • If a payment is refused as an unknown site, check that the credentials were issued for the country your venue is in.
  • One Site ID can be used by only one account.
  • For credential or pricing questions, contact Epassi. Venues in Finland write to palveluntarjoajat@epassi.com. For help with the integration in Thril, contact Thril support.
