Movement library
Build a catalog of exercises, global and venue-specific, to use when composing workout sections.
The Movements tab under Programming is your catalog of exercises available when building sections. It combines Thril's built-in global movements with any custom movements your venue has added.
Global vs custom movements
Thril ships with a large catalog of global movements across seven categories: Barbell, Dumbbell, Kettlebell, Gymnastics, Monostructural, Medicine-ball, and Strongman. A few examples:
- Barbell: Back Squat, Deadlift, Clean & Jerk, Push Press, Front Squat
- Gymnastics: Pull-up, Chest-to-Bar Pull-up, Muscle-up, Toes-to-Bar, Burpee, Box Jump
- Monostructural: Row, Run, Assault Bike, Ski Erg, Double Under
- Kettlebell: Kettlebell Swing, Turkish Get-Up, Goblet Squat
- Medicine-ball: Wall Ball, Slam Ball
- Strongman: Farmers Carry, Tire Flip, Sled Push
- Dumbbell: DB Snatch, Devil's Press, DB Thruster
Global movements can't be edited or deleted, they're the same across every venue. Custom movements are yours alone: only your own custom movements show edit and delete actions in the table.
Creating a custom movement
Click Create movement on the Movements tab, or add one on the fly while composing a section: search for a name with no exact match and choose Create to add it as a custom movement without leaving the section editor. Fill in:
- Name: required, e.g. "Back squat"
- Category: a free-text label you choose, e.g. "Squat", for your own organization. This is separate from the fixed categories used by the global catalog
- Default unit: kg, Reps, Meters, Calories, or Seconds. This decides which fields a coach sees by default when adding the movement to a section, a load table for a kg movement, a distance field for a meters movement, and so on
- Description: optional, coaching notes for the movement
Editing and deleting
Open a custom movement from the Movements tab to edit its name, category, default unit, or description. Deleting a movement asks for confirmation first, since it can't be undone.
✅ Best practices
- Search before creating a new movement, custom movements don't automatically merge with a similarly named global one
- Keep category labels consistent across your custom movements so your library stays easy to browse
- Set the default unit to match how you actually coach the movement, it saves time filling in fields later when building a section
CrossFit Programming
Build a movement library, compose WODs from reusable sections, and attach them to classes and courses so athletes can view and log their results in the Thril app.
