Session cards

Session cards are prepaid packages that grant customers a set number of reservations, offering flexibility and encouraging repeat visits at your venue.

Session cards on Thril are prepaid packages that grant customers a specific number of usable sessions for sports or facility reservations. These are ideal for venues offering frequent access to resources, equipment, or facilities on a flexible basis.

✅ What Is a Session Card?

A session card allows a customer to book a defined number of reservations at your venue.

These cards:

  • Are paid once and used over time.
  • Can include restrictions (e.g., only weekdays or specific sports).
  • Are visible in your venue’s Shop (if marked active).
  • Expire after a defined validity period (if set).

Each time a customer makes a reservation matching the card's criteria, one session is deducted from the card's balance.

🛠 Creating a Session Card

  1. Navigate to: Products → Session cards → Create session card

  2. Fill in the Basic Details:

    • Name: The title visible to your customers.
    • Applicable to: Choose what types of purchases this card covers — Reservations, Events, or both. A card must be marked as applicable to events before it can be selected on an event.
    • Quota type: How the card's usage limit is measured:
      • Count — limits the total number of sessions used.
      • Time — limits the total duration (hours and minutes) used. Not available when the card is applicable to events.
    • Max sessions: Total number of sessions (or duration (hours and minutes), for time-based cards) a customer can use the card. Alternatively, tick No usage limit to remove the cap entirely — the card can then be used any number of times within its validity period.

⚠️ Caution: Session cards with no usage limit are recommended only for very short-lived validity periods. We strongly recommend also enabling Restrict benefits to validity period to prevent abuse.

    • Validity (in days): How long the card remains valid after purchase. For example, “365” means the card expires 365 days from the purchase date. Enable Validity starts from first use to start the countdown from the customer's first booking instead. This is handy for advance sales where you want validity to kick in only once the customer actually starts using the card.
    • Restrict benefits to validity period: Requires any reservation or event paid with the card to start within the card's validity period. If this is not enabled, the card only needs to be active when it is used.
    • Allow only one purchase per customer: Prevents the same customer from buying the same session card more than once in the Pro Shop (B2C). This restriction applies to customer purchases only — B2B administrative actions are not affected. Customers who already own the card will not see it in the shop.
    • Price: Total cost of the session card, incl. VAT.
    • Status: Only Active cards are visible for purchase in the Pro Shop.
  3. Set Restrictions (optional but recommended): Here you can restrict where and how the session card is applicable.

These filters ensure customers only use sessions for intended reservations:

    • Sport types
      • (e.g. Padel, Badminton)
    • Specific resources
      • (e.g. Resource 1, Resource 2)
    • Days of the week
    • Time slot restrictions
      • (e.g. only morning hours)
    • Reservation Durations
      • (e.g. 30 min, 60 min, etc.)
  4. Click “Create session card” to publish it in the Pro Shop.

🧑‍💼 Managing Session Cards

Click any session card in the list to view or manage it. You’ll see:

  • Details: Metadata, pricing, and visibility.
  • Restrictions: What types of reservations are covered.
  • Purchases: Who owns the card, how many sessions they’ve used, and when they bought it.

✏️ Editing or Deleting a Session Card

  • Click Edit session card to update any of the fields or restrictions.
  • You can also Delete session card if it's no longer needed.

Already purchased cards remain usable by the customer even after the card is deleted or deactivated.

If you enable Allow only one purchase per customer after customers have already bought the card, those existing purchases count toward the one-purchase limit.

👥 Tracking Purchases & Usage

Under the “Purchases” tab in each session card:

  • View a list of users who’ve bought the card
  • Track their session usage (e.g. “3 / 10 used”)
  • See the purchase timestamp

This helps with follow-ups and customer service inquiries.

🔄 Use Cases

  • 10-session packs for regular players (Kymppikortti).
  • Monthly unlimited-use cards with restrictions (e.g. weekdays only).
  • Special promo cards for specific events or sports.
  • Short-term staff or partner access cards with no usage limit (e.g. valid for 30 days, unrestricted use).

✅ Best Practices

  • Name clearly: e.g., “Padel 10x Card” or “Morning Tennis Sessions Only”.
  • Set meaningful restrictions to avoid misuse and control rush hours.
  • Monitor usage to understand customer behavior and adjust offerings.

Session cards offer flexibility for both customers and venues, improve upfront cash flow, and encourage repeat visits. Use them to boost loyalty and provide value with minimal overhead.
