# SimSalaThril (/en/businesses/integrations/simsalathril)

SimSalaThril is Thril's own lock for golf simulator PCs. A simulator stays locked until someone has a booking on it. When the booking starts, the PC unlocks by itself. Before the booking ends, a popup shows a QR code that customers scan to book more time. When the booking ends, the PC locks again.

SimSalaThril is a paid add-on. If **Settings → System → Integrations → SimSalaThril** shows **Request SimSalaThril**, select it and Thril will contact you about the next steps.

## What you need [#what-you-need]

* A 64-bit Windows PC at each simulator.
* An internet connection on the PC. SimSalaThril keeps working through short outages, but it needs to reach Thril to pair and to pick up new bookings.
* A bookable resource in Thril for each simulator. See [Resources](/businesses/resources).
* A venue admin account. Clerks can see the PCs and the access codes, but only admins can change settings, manage codes and pair PCs.

## Set up SimSalaThril [#set-up-simsalathril]

### 1. Turn it on and choose the settings [#1-turn-it-on-and-choose-the-settings]

1. Open **Settings → System → Integrations → SimSalaThril**.
2. Set **Extra time before a booking** and **Extra time after a booking**. This is how many minutes the simulator is unlocked outside the booked time, up to 60 minutes each.
3. Choose the **Booking ending notice**: 5, 10 or 15 minutes before the end, or **Off**. The popup with the QR code appears at the time you pick. **Off** never shows it.
4. Turn on **Unlock during resource blockers** if a blocker on the simulator's resource should unlock it, for example for a lesson or a staff session. The extra time before and after applies to blockers as well.
5. Turn on **Unlock for bookings on resources that share the space** if you sell the simulator's room as more than one resource, for example a golf simulator and darts. A booking on any resource that shares the space then unlocks the simulator like a booking on its own resource, with the same extra time, ending notice and lock screen. With blockers on as well, a blocker on such a resource unlocks the simulator when it has **Also block resources that share this space** selected.
6. Add **Unlocked hours** if the simulators should stay open during staffed opening hours without a booking. Leave it empty to keep the simulators locked outside bookings.
7. Switch the status to **Active** and select **Save changes**.

<Callout type="info">
  Until the integration is active, you cannot pair simulators. While it is
  switched off, every paired simulator stays locked. The pairing stays in place,
  so turning the integration back on is enough.
</Callout>

### 2. Add staff codes [#2-add-staff-codes]

Staff enter a staff code at the simulator PC to unlock or lock it by hand. Open the **Access codes** tab, select **Add access code**, choose **Staff code** and give it a name and four to eight digits. Give each staff member their own code, so you can see who did what at the PC. See [Access codes](#access-codes).

### 3. Install SimSalaThril on the simulator PC [#3-install-simsalathril-on-the-simulator-pc]

1. On the simulator PC, download the [Windows installer](https://simsala.thril.fi/prod/Thril.SimSalaThril-win-x64-stable-Setup.exe). The **Download for Windows** button on the SimSalaThril settings page gives the same file.
2. Run the installer. It installs for the signed-in Windows user and does not ask for administrator rights. Windows can show an "unknown publisher" warning for a downloaded installer. Choose to run it anyway.
3. SimSalaThril starts and locks the screen. A new PC shows a notice that the simulator is not set up yet.

Install it on every simulator PC. Each PC pairs with one resource.

### 4. Pair the PC with a resource [#4-pair-the-pc-with-a-resource]

1. In Thril, open **Settings → System → Integrations → SimSalaThril** and go to the **Simulators** tab.
2. Select **Pair a simulator**.
3. Under **Select resource**, choose the resource this PC belongs to, then select **Create pairing code**.
4. Thril shows an eight-character code. It works once and expires after 15 minutes.
5. On the simulator PC, press **Ctrl+Shift+F12**. The **Pair this simulator** window opens.
6. Enter the code and select **Pair**.

<Callout type="info">
  If the top row of the keyboard runs media or other functions instead of F1 to
  F12, hold **Fn** as well: **Ctrl+Shift+Fn+F12**. This applies to the staff
  shortcut below too.
</Callout>

The PC now appears in the **Simulators** tab with a status of **Online**. Bookings on that resource unlock the PC from now on.

<Callout type="info">
  A resource has one PC. If you pair a new PC with a resource that already has
  one, the old PC is unpaired and locks.
</Callout>

### 5. Keep the PC signed in [#5-keep-the-pc-signed-in]

SimSalaThril starts when Windows signs in. Set the PC to sign in to the same Windows user automatically after a restart, and leave that user signed in. If nobody is signed in, the simulator is not locked and SimSalaThril is not running.

Staff can switch the start at sign-in off or on from the staff menu (see below).

## Test that it works [#test-that-it-works]

1. Make a test booking on the resource, starting now. See [Reservations](/businesses/reservations).
2. The PC unlocks within about 10 seconds. A small countdown in the tray shows how long is left.
3. Cancel the booking or let it end. The PC locks again after the booking ends, plus the extra time you set.

## What staff can do at the PC [#what-staff-can-do-at-the-pc]

Staff press **Ctrl+Shift+F12**, or double-click the SimSalaThril icon in the tray, and enter their staff code. They can then:

* **Unlock for 10 minutes.** The unlock ends early if the next booking starts sooner.
* **Lock now.** The PC stays locked until staff select **Resume booking control**.
* **Resume booking control.** The PC follows the bookings again.
* **Check for updates.** Downloads a new version if there is one, and the dialog shows how it went. The button then reads **Install update and restart**, which installs it right away, even while the PC is unlocked. SimSalaThril also updates itself when the PC has been idle for five minutes.
* **Pair again.** Use it to pair the PC with another resource.
* **Language.** Sets the language of the lock screen and the booking ending popup on this PC. It defaults to the Windows language.
* **Move booking notice.** Shows a sample of the popup that staff drag to where it hides none of the simulator's own controls, on any monitor. Without a saved spot, or when the saved monitor is gone, it sits at the top right of the main monitor. It saves where you drop it, and **Reset to top right** undoes it.
* Turn start at Windows sign-in on or off, or quit SimSalaThril.

Five wrong codes block code entry for 30 seconds. SimSalaThril's staff windows and tray menu are in English. The lock screen and the booking ending popup follow the language you set.

## Access codes [#access-codes]

The **Access codes** tab has every code entered at the simulator PCs. Each code has a type:

* A **Staff code** opens the staff menu above.
* An **Unlock code** unlocks a simulator for a set time without a booking, for example for a partner, a coach or an event. It gives no staff rights: the person who enters it cannot lock the PC, pair it or quit SimSalaThril.

To add a code, select **Add access code**. Give it:

* A **Name** that says who or what the code is for. It shows in each PC's **Staff actions**.
* A **Type**: **Staff code** or **Unlock code**.
* A **Code** of four to eight digits. Each code must differ from the venue's other codes.
* For an unlock code, an **Unlock time** from 5 minutes to 8 hours.

Select a code in the table to change or delete it. A code works on every simulator at the venue, and a venue can have up to 200 codes. If you set a staff PIN before access codes, it is in the list as a staff code named **Staff PIN**.

At the PC, press **Ctrl+Shift+F12**, enter an unlock code and select **Continue**. The PC unlocks for the code's unlock time. Entering the same code again before the time ends returns the PC to normal locking. A booking that starts during the unlock ends it, so a code never runs into someone else's booking. When the booking ending notice is on, a popup counts down the last minutes of the unlock. It has no QR code, as there is no booking to extend.

<Callout type="info">
  Deleting a code stops it working from the next update, within about 10
  seconds. A PC that an unlock code already unlocked stays unlocked until its
  time ends.
</Callout>

## Managing simulators [#managing-simulators]

The **Simulators** tab lists every paired PC with its resource, status, when it was last seen and its version. Select a row to open it. There you can:

* Rename the PC under **PC name**.
* Set **Unlocked hours** for this PC only, with **Use different hours from the venue**.
* Select **Open lock screen** to see what the screen shows.
* Read **Staff actions**. It lists when staff unlocked, locked or closed SimSalaThril, when an unlock code unlocked the PC, and wrong codes. Each entry shows the name of the code that was used.
* Select **Unpair** to remove the PC. It locks and needs a new pairing code to work again.

## Sales through SimSalaThril [#sales-through-simsalathril]

Bookings made from the QR codes on a simulator PC are marked **Via SimSalaThril** in the reservation list. Thril counts the lock screen QR code and the popup QR code separately.

**Statistics** shows the card **Sold through SimSalaThril** with the bookings and revenue from each QR code. When the popup sells more time right after a booking, the sale also counts as extra time in **Extra time sold by the app**, under **SimSalaThril popup**. A popup sale after unlocked hours or a blocker continues no booking, so it counts only on the SimSalaThril card.

## Good to know [#good-to-know]

* A PC that goes offline keeps the booking information it had for up to two hours. If a booking is cancelled during that time, the PC stays unlocked until it reaches Thril again.
* When the PC cannot show the lock screen, a notice says the simulator is not set up, not in use or offline.

## When something looks wrong [#when-something-looks-wrong]

1. Open **Settings → System → Integrations → SimSalaThril** and check that the status is **Active**. If it is switched off, all simulators stay locked.
2. Open the **Simulators** tab. **Offline** or an old **Last seen** time means the PC cannot reach Thril. Check its network and that SimSalaThril is running in the tray.
3. A PC that shows a notice that the simulator is not in use has been unpaired or the integration is switched off. Create a new pairing code if it was unpaired.
4. A pairing code that does not work was already used or has expired. Create a new one.
5. Staff can always unlock the PC with a staff code while you sort it out.
6. Contact [Thril support](mailto:support@thril.fi) if it still does not work. Give the venue name, the resource and the PC name.
